Charms of Lincolnshire, in Lincolnshire

I felt called to write a letter to the Guardian today.

Does the Guardian have to patronise the provinces by ignoring their artistic initiatives? Charlotte Higgins did not mention (July 5th), but readers might be interested to know, that they could have seen Grayson Perry’s The Charms of Lincolnshire between February and May in Lincoln. They would have been able to see the Collection, the new museum which commissioned Perry’s exhibition. The building won a RIBA award. Just up the hill, beyond the Cathedral and the castle, they could have looked at one of the museums which provided the inspiration for the exhibition’s excellent juxtaposition of old craft and new art. Of course, on the way to and from Lincoln they could have taken in the very varied charms of the county of Lincolnshire itself.
