Earth Moves in Market Rasen

As one of only about 90000 people in Grimsby to experience the quake/tremor I thought I ought to share it with you folks. In a deep sleep I suddenly became aware of the bed being shaken vigourously. As I came to I realised that the gas fire was vibrating ferociously and the whole room seemed to be shaking. My first thought was that the chimney had been struck by lightening and that there was debris coming down. I thought it was raining because there was a running sound in the drain. There was no rain, indeed when I got round to looking out it seemed very still apart from dogs barking and neighbours in their nightclothes talking together in the street.

There seems to have been very little stuctural damage - just the odd chimney here and there. Pat was awake in Kate’s room listening to the radio - she at first assumed it was an explosion at a Humber Bank factory.

When I looked at the internet I found that the BBC was quoting the American Geographical Survey, so I checked out their website and filled in their questionnaire. By the time I had finished, about 30 mins after the tremor, there were already 28 responses from Grimsby alone on their site. The wonders of the digital age.

Did you feel anything?
